A Celebration of Hispanic culture will be held at the Soldiers Grove Library on Thursday, October 15th from 6-9pm.  It will be an `open house', family-style event featuring live music, ethnic food and a display of the library's newly acquired, bi-lingual materials in Spanish and English, including books, movies and music.

Several local area businesses have added their specialties to the evening.  The popular Apple'licious Pie Depot, of Gays Mills will contribute apple pizza, Chilito Lindo of Viroqua and Casa Maxi Grocery of Richland Center will add appetizers and, rumor has it, a pinata for the children into the bargain!  The library will have some bi-lingual stories and games as well.  The band, Sonidos Suaves, comes  to us through the Centro Hispano of Madison, and they will be playing popular music from all over Latin America, including Rancheras, Cumbias, Boleras and much more!  A professional interpreter, and a very sweet, dynamic person as well, Gilda Mantello will be on hand to help communicate and remove language barriers.

Those attending will be able to get a library card, if they don't already have one, and check out items right away.  A library card from the Southwest System costs nothing and enables one to check out materials and use the Internet access computers at 29 public libraries in the five counties of  Crawford, Grant, Richland, Iowa and LaFayette.  So it's worth its weight in gold, indeed!

Working with a Hispanic Outreach Grant awarded to the Southwest Wisconsin Library System (SWLS) and funded by the federal Library and Technology Services Act (LSTA), the Soldiers Grove Library has been given an opportunity to host this exciting event, free of charge.  Everyone is invited to come enjoy the fun and meet your multi-cultural neighbors!
