How do songs get written? There are about as many ways to write them as there are songs. Songs are an

intersection of story and music that has no address, no formula, and no timetable. Writing is equally about play

as it is about work. Writing songs is generative process; songs sometimes have a mind of their own and the best

you can do is hold on, follow your ear, and keep writing.

This workshop is a time to let the playful writer in you put some of your stories to music. Learn a way of writing and

of playing music that spawns melodies and images that have not yet been joined, not yet been sung. The ability to

play an instrument is not required for this workshop (although, if you have one, please bring it along). L.J. writes

songs on the guitar, piano, bass, and the strumstick. All writing experience levels welcome.
