LJ Booth Returns to Greenman Music Hall SaturdayBy borges, Section Friday Web Picks
I saw LJ awhile back at Greenman and he puts on a fine show. This performance is in conjunction with a song writing workshop happening at the Full_Circle_Retreat, which is a pretty well kept secret near Viroqua...not sure exactly where, but near. Might be too late for the workshop this time, but worth the effort to make the concert.
Details on the workshop are below the fold from the Full Circle Retreat website...
Songwriting Workshop
September 26-28 How do songs get written? There are about as many ways to write them as there are songs. Songs are an intersection of story and music that has no address, no formula, and no timetable. Writing is equally about play as it is about work. Writing songs is generative process; songs sometimes have a mind of their own and the best you can do is hold on, follow your ear, and keep writing. This workshop is a time to let the playful writer in you put some of your stories to music. Learn a way of writing and of playing music that spawns melodies and images that have not yet been joined, not yet been sung. The ability to play an instrument is not required for this workshop (although, if you have one, please bring it along). L.J. writes songs on the guitar, piano, bass, and the strumstick. All writing experience levels welcome. Weekend Retreat: Workshop begins Friday evening, continues Saturday 9-4pm, concert Saturday night, continues Sunday 9-1pm--$160 You may attend the Workshop on Saturday only if you prefer: 9am-4pm--$130 Workshop fee includes admission to the Saturday night concert. |
