Yes, we want farmers to attend but this summit is also about integrating local foods into our community vision for health, conservation, education, economic development and more. Please help us spread the word through your area of expertise! Supporting farmers and businesses that grow and use locally grown products is important to many businesses and ventures in SW WI. The purpose of the Local Food Summit is twofold: to build awareness of what is currently happening and giving us time as a community to think about what each of us brings to the table to move things forward.
· For health care and wellness- how does access to fresh locally grown products fit with your message? · For conservation and the environment- one farmer at a Local Fare listening session eloquently said that receiving a slightly higher price for his beef (than the commodity market) helps him use the land stewardship models that are best for his land. · Main Street and business- Local Foods are an opportunity. Many locals and travelers care where their food comes from- this is a national trend. How can we support more efforts to have locally grown products available in our communities? · Farmers- we want you to be here to speak for yourself. · Stores and food service. Small, medium and large volume buyers- restaurants, universities, schools, hospitals, food service. You play a very important piece in growing the food system - we want you involved. We can't buy it if it isn't for sale! Are we going to solve everything on April 22nd? No- but the SW WI Local Food Summit will be an important step at moving things forward. Please try to attend and share this request with others. Help us get the word out. Sincerely, Rink DaVee daveer(at-sign)uwplatt[dot]edu |
