The Soldiers Grove Library is very pleased to present Project Fourth Stream, with composer Bill Neil on piano and Tom Gullion on saxophones, in a Sunday afternoon Jazz workshop/concert outdoors in the courtyard behind the library. On July 22, from 2 - 4pm , these world-class musicians will take us to the mysterious world of improvisational jazz.

"Our performances may appear very free but there's actually a lot of work in fine-tuning compositions for improvisation," Guiliion explained.  "We'll share our approach by demonstrating how we evolve an idea into a finished performance."   Bravo!  Bring a lawn chair or blanket, and something cool to sip.  Library programs are free of charge & open to everyone.

More in the full story...

The music of William Neil has been performed on both sides of the Atlantic, and has been featured at the Festival of Music in Evian, France, the Electronic Plus Festival in New York and the Pontino Festival in Italy. Neil was also appointed the first composer-in-residence with the Lyric Opera of Chicago.  His latest composition, I Praise, was commissioned & performed this Spring by local a cappella group, The Ridgetones, in Viroqua.

Tom Gullion has toured the US with jazz legend J.J. Johnson's quintet, and performed extensively through Europe with the Spanish jazz group, Clunia.  He has recorded CD's with some of the best players in the Chicago jazz scene, and most recently, produced Catharsis, a CD in which he wrote, performed, & recorded all the music himself.
