ARCHAEOLOGIST REVEALS MYSTERIES OF AZTALAN
Located near Lake Mills, Aztalan is Wisconsin's premier archaeological site. It was an agricultural and ceremonial town built upon large mounds by a group of Mississippi Indians between 1050 and 1200 A.D. The town was enclosed with huge wood & clay walls. Former State Archaeologist at the Wisconsin Historical Society, Robert Birmingham, will describe this town, its history and the mysteries that still surround the site on Tuesday, May 22, at 7pm at the Soldiers Grove Library. Birmingham is the author of the book Indian Mounds of Wisconsin, which is available for checkout at the library. He will also bring copies of his newest book, Aztalan: Northern Outpost of the Mississippian Indians. This program is free and open to the public and is supported by the Wisconsin Humanities Counsil, with funds from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the State of Wisconsin, and individual donors.
