Farm School Meeting--March 21

A group gathered in early_March to discuss the idea of children learning in a farm setting.  Christine (at loverocks(at-sign)mchsi.com for more info) reported that the first meeting was a great gathering of ideas and visions.  It was also productive.

We made plans to implement our final group vision in the form of a "practice" farm experience before the end of May.  Our vision consists of a two-day learning experience.  One day spent on a working farm doing meaningful chores that hopefully assist the farmer as well as give learning opportunties to the children.  The second day would be group academic focus activities that connect to the activities on the farm. Those in attendance had a focus on the needs of homeschooled children.  We are working to connect with a farm and work from there.

Our next meeting is Wednesday, March 21 at 7:00pm at 234 Center Ave.  Thank you to the Whited-Fords for opening their lovely home for both meetings.

Hello,

We held our second meeting for the farm school idea Wednesday, March 21.  Interest in the project seems to be increasing.  It also seems to be evolving into more of a homeschooling cooperative with farm experiences as one component.  The other options would be held in the form of a day of various learning experiences that might include art, science, ecological emphasis, theatre just to name a few examples.  There are 3 distinct work groups that have formed in the areas of farm experiences, day of learning, and an umbrella organization that would act as an umbrella over the both.  We also held open the idea of other types of learning experiences to be created that would be under this umbrella organization.  If you are interested in joining one of these work groups, please reply to this email.  The farm experience/umbrella organization work group will be meeting April 4 at 7:00 pm at the Harrington home 420 W South St.  A general meeting of all the work groups will be held April 18 at 7:00 pm at the Whited-Ford home 234 Center St.

From now on I will refer to this project as the Homeschool Cooperative idea.

Thanks,

Christine
