Planning for the End of LifeBy Mocha, Section Templum
In attending a funeral or memorial service have you ever thought, "I'd like that when I die" or "I definitely hope no one does that at my service"? If you leave a record of your wishes then your loved ones can follow them.

In her final years, my mother prepared for her death with the same thoroughness and vigor that she lived her life. She wrote a living will, preplanned her funeral, designated me with power of attorney and listed me as a co-signer on her checks. When her health failed, I easily assumed my duties on her behalf. After her death, her planning became a gift to me, and the family. In the midst of all of the feelings and reactions that follow the death of a loved one, I appreciated being freed from agonizing over the decisions that she'd recorded.
The Threshold Care Circle of Viroqua has published a booklet, My Final Wishes, where all of these details can be enumerated for our family and friends. The women who compiled and wrote this booklet said, "Our hope is that, by envisioning this process in thoughtful detail before it is imminent, each of us will be able to enter this final journey with calm dignity and loving support, and with as little fear and anxiety as possible." Copies of this booklet are available at Bramble Books, 117 S. Main St., Viroqua or by calling Susan Nesbit at (608) 606-4566 or Kathy Doerfer at (608) 637-6620. I'm beginning the process of filling out this booklet so that when I die, I'll pass on the gift that my mother gave me to those who remain to carry out my final wishes.
