For those of us who don't want a few big companies deciding what we see, hear, and read in the news, it's a bad day. AP_covers_it_here.
The Bush-appointed FCC just voted to loosen media ownership rules so large companies can swallow up more local news outlets. They did this despite a huge public outcry--when the FCC asked for public comments, overwhelming majorities opposed media consolidation. KickTime_covered some of the outspoken opponents that came out from both sides of the political spectrum. According to the linked AP story President Bush is vowing to veto any actions of congress on this issue.
