Sunday Soul Music--"Rise Up Singing" AuthorBy borges, Section Templum
I am having a Church Lady moment this Sunday.
Since progressives enjoy seeking spirit and soul in myriad ways (and our atheist readers, who might find this odd, please just move on to the next blog if you need to) it seems a poor omission to leave religion out of a community project. So here is a start. Mark Helpsmeet produces two shows for a local radio station in Eau Claire and offers his work via the web. Many progressive voices complain about how the religious conservatives have taken over this territory, and Mark works tirelessly to provide progressive voices of faith and witness. We start with this interview of a co-author of the sing-along song book Rise Up Singing as she shares songs she loves and have informed her spiritual journey. Below the fold is an introduction from the program website.
Annie Patterson is a thorough music lover, maker and sharer. She and her husband, Peter Blood, are the creators of Rise Up Singing, the group singing songbook which has sold over 1 million copies. Annie's CD, Meet Me By The Moonlight, mixes traditional folk songs, ballads and composed songs. Annie has many years experience performing music in coffeehouses, clubs and festivals and with a swing group called Big Nite Out and Girls From Mars. Annie was raised Methodist, but felt, even in her teens, a tug toward the Divine presence available in silence, an attraction that led her to Quakers as an adult.
Annie's Song of the Soul includes the following music, much of it from her CD, Meet Me By The Moonlight:
Christmas Lullaby by Annie Patterson Safe from Harm (Fear A'Bhata) by Annie Patterson The Cruel War by Annie Patterson Bailero by Frederica von Stade Bright Morning Stars by Annie Patterson Minuit by Paul Winter The Creation of Ea by Annie Patterson And I Am Still Searching by Pete Seeger
