Our regular contributor Marcia Halligan has completed a year of writing and producing the web radio program Peace_Calendar. The first program was an interview of the Bike4Peace riders who visited Viroqua last Labor Day weekend. As it happens they are returning and will be in the area this weekend. Her fine year of work on the Peace Calendar is available at the link above. Tip of the hat to Marcia!
The full report on this year's Bike4Peace is below the fold...
[edit 9/2/06 update on final plans by Marcia]
Greetings!
Everything is falling into place. The
cyclists will stay in Viroqua and the pot luck
will be held Sunday evening, September 3rd at
6 p.m. at the earth-sheltered Troy home at
416 Willow. Willow is located between
Maple St. and NN at the south end of Viroqua.
Anyone wishing to ride with them for awhile on
Monday morning on the first part of their ride to
Madison will be welcomed.
Hope to see you there!
Blessings,
Marcia

Last year three Bike 4 Peace cyclists came through Viroqua on their
way from Everett, Washington to Washington, D.C. They rode bicycles to
highlight the alternatives to our dependence on foreign oil and wars.
The riders carried banners with them and people along the way wrote
messages on the banners and signed them. The cyclists unfurled the
banners at the White House.
This year eight riders are following the same route. One of them
is shooting a documentary film of their trip and the people they
encounter along the way. This time they're collecting letters to
President Bush which they will read out loud outside the White House.
Bike 4 Peace will reach the Viroqua area late in the day on Sunday,
September 3rd. Regrettably because of problems in rapid communication
between them and me I haven't been able to find the address of the place
they will stay near Viroqua. However, I want to spread the word before
all of the social calendars become full! I'm organizing a pot luck
which will probably begin at 6 p.m. Six of the riders adhere to a
vegetarian diet and one is a vegan who avoids wheat and kidney beans.
At some point in the evening I will interview two of the riders for
Radio Driftless. Please plan to come. I will send out the specific
place and directions when I can. If interested, bring letters to the
President to give to them.
They welcome any bicyclists who would like to ride with them on
Labor Day morning for the first segment of their ride to Madison.
Address any questions to me and I'll try to field them as best I can.
Those of us who met them last year really enjoyed talking with them
and sharing stories and ideas.
Blessings and Peace,
Marcia
