![]() The world is against the death penalty, few countries continue to use it as a punishment, the ultimate punishment, and yet in Wisconsin we have the decision before us on this November's ballot. World Day against the death penalty organization has an emphasis this year that it is a "Failure of Justice." Their press release is here and a Wisconsin organization has a website here that has many resources for making the case against making Wisconsin a death penalty state.

La Crosse Public Library Death Penalty Referendum Discussion Gary Beeman, who spent three years on death row before being acquitted, will tell his story. He is the only person to have ever won exoneration at a second trial proceeding as his own attorney after being sentenced to death. Keith Belzer, advocate for death row inmates, will also add his perspective and talk about the upcoming death penalty referendum in November. Sponsored by League of Women Voters of La Crosse, UW-L Joint Legislative Regents Committee, UW-L Progressives and the Interfaith Justice and Peace Group.
