Don't know beans about ducks

I am tired of eating chickens and want to refine my diet by substituting duck.

Now I don't know beans about ducks...

So I am contemplating options for obtaining a yearly supply of duck for my small family. I figure 12 ducks or a duck a month.  Should I (or my friends and I) raise ducks or buy ducks is one of the main issues I have yet to determine.

I was leaning toward raising ducks when I heard from a friend that he had a line on a dozen one and a half year old muscovy ducks. Is this a good idea?

Maybe one of the many cooks in this Kicktime kitchen could suggest:

  1. what kind of duck is preferred for cooking?

  2. how old should it be?

thanks for any input,
