In 1952, Poor People, Indigenous People,
Peasants, the Working Class,
After suffering 450 years of brutal dictatorships,
Elected Jacobo Arbenz president of Guatemala.
He was the "People's" president;
[80% of the people live in poverty].
[65% of the people are Indians].
The People finally won;
The whole world cheered.

Arbenz redistributed unused land -
He initiated social programs
Such as Health Care, Education
And Welfare for the masses of Poor . . . . . . . .

. . . . . .But wait . . . . . . . wait . . . .
Rich people, Investors, Corporations,
Big Landowners felt cheated.
This is Freedom and Democracy for Poor People.
The Rich, Investors, Big Landowners, Corporations
Are entitled to Freedom and Democracy, too!

In exercising their democratic rights
The overwhelming majority of Poor
Will select candidates, organize, vote,
And democratically change laws that will -
Plunder Rich People, redistribute their wealth,
Take their lands, and power away from them,
Strip foreign investors of their huge profits.

Everyone knows this is NOT democracy
But creeping Communism, Socialism,
Marxism, Leftism, Liberalism.
Sharing is wrong!  Sharing is evil!!!
Everything must be worked for, earned
Or Poor People, peasants, indigenous people
Will become lazy and live off the wealth
And land of rich people.

Poor people, the peasants, the indigenous people
Must work harder, then maybe just maybe
The Rich, the Investors, the Landowners
Will treat them better -
Respect them for their hard work,
Give them a little bit more.

The Rich, to regain their freedom and democracy,
Demanded a regime change.
So, the CIA in July 1954, bombed President Arbenz
In the Guatemala City Federal Building.

The People's President was marched
To the airport in his underwear.
Put on a plane bound for Mexico
(where he later committed suicide).

Rich people, Investors, Big Landowners
Laughed, danced, sang, and cheered.
Freedom and Democracy
Is now safe in Guatemala.

They put a military dictator in power;
Hired and trained Death Squads -
Trained in the School of the Americas
To keep Guatemala safe
For the Freedon and Democracy of
Rich people, Investors, Corporations, Landowners.

Because the People demanded the return
Of their democratically elected President,
And because they wouldn't give up land,
Land that Arbenz distributed to them,
8000 Poor were killed by Military Death Squads.

Paramilitaries helped.
Paramilitaries are Poor people hired by
Rich people, Investors, Big Landowners
To kill Poor people wanting democracy,
And a better share of the pie.

The military are Poor people drafted by
The government who represents
Rich people, Investors, Big Landowners
To kill Poor people wanting democracy,
And a better share of the pie.

Later, when they organized and demanded democracy,
200,000 Mayan Indians were massacred.
637 villages were burned to the ground.
One million Indians fled the country.
Their meager plots of land were taken from them.
Investors, Rich people, Big Landowners
Said that they could put Indian land to better use.
(Mass graves are still being dug up).

Rich people, Investors, Corporations, Landowners
Now own huge family farms and agribusinesses.
And grow crops for "Export" to "free" markets,
And give Poor people, indigenous people, the peasants
Jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs.
[Actually profits, profits, profits for themselves].
Give them a chance to work hard for a living,
And be citizens worthy of respect.

Rich people, Investors, Corporations
Built factories, hired more displaced Poor
(Now living in slums and shantytowns).
Gave them jobs manufacturing "stuff" for Export.

The Poor, the Peasants, the Indigenous People
[who at one time were self sufficient]
Are now part of the Free Markets.
They can now buy Imported food.
They can now buy Imported "stuff".
They have Freedom to become consumers

The World Bank and IMF has lent "Guatemala"
Incredible sums of money so that
Rich people, Investors, Corporations, Landowners
Can have money to help Guatemala's economy.

But sadly, the poor can't pay back
The huge loans or the interest on these loans.
[Rich People don't pay taxes]
The Poor claim they are too poor.
[80% live in poverty]
[Many live on less than 2 dollars a day]
[One out of three Guatemalans live in extreme poverty].
Poor people will be in debt for generations.

So Rich people, Investors,
Corporations, Big Landowners,
Help the Poor by using the World Bank
And IMF loans to buy and privatize
Community owned resources,
Such as water works, electrical generation,
Roads, public lands, parks, libraries,
Medical clinics and schools.

The sales money is used
To pay off some interest on the debt.

The rich, the investor, the corporations
Now own all the Community Owned Resources
And give more people
Jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs
[actually profits, profits, profits].

Privatizing profits and socializing costs
Is important in a capitalist democracy.

On December 29, 1996 a Peace Treaty was signed.
The Peasants, the Poor, the Indigenous People
Agreed to stop demanding democracy.
Rich people, Investors, Corporations, Landowners
Agreed to stop killing them.

The Peasants, the Poor, the Indigenous People
Who demanded freedom and democracy
In El Salvador, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Honduras,
Grenada, Dominican Republic, Haiti,
Chile, Ecuador, Bolivia, Peru, Argentina,
Uruguay, Panama, Brazil, Cuba
Were labeled  "Communists"
In the war on Communism,
And one knows what happened to them.

The Peasants, the Poor, the Indigenous People
Are again demanding democracy
In Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Honduras,
Grenada, Dominican Republic, Haiti,
Chile, Ecuador, Bolivia, Peru, Argentina,
Uruguay, Panama, Brazil.
They are now labeled "terrorists"
Or "narco-terrorists"
In the global war on Terrorism,
And one knows what will happen to them.

Jesus loves the Poor.
He says the Poor will always be with us.
Rich people, Investors, Corporations, Landowners
Living, profiting, and accumulating more capital
From the hard work, labor, sacrifices, and misery
Of Poor People
Intend to keep it that way.
