Central America Support Alliance (CASA)

Central America Support Alliance (CASA) of Gays Mills The Central America Support Alliance grew out of a group called the Pledge of Resistance Committee of Gays Mills. PORC in turn was a next step from Citizens for Safe Energy, a local group that worked to stop the production of electricity at the Genoa nuclear power plant. The original group that started all of this political activity was called something like the Rural Discussion Group and it began back in the mid-70's.

CASA became CASA instead of the CASG (Group instead of Alliance) due to a typo, but we liked it so it stuck. CASG began sometime before 1989 and originally was dedicated to education and political action around issues concerning the countries of Central America. Currently, CASA continues those goals, but looks to the world as a whole with special emphasis on Central America. CASA's main activity in recent years has been fun family evening involving a party game where cakes are won and shared and money is gathered to support various projects abroad that local people have personal contact with. We also have a deep concern about the war in Iraq and hope to have a program including veterans of that war as speakers sometime soon.
