Report on the Walk Against War and Peace CalendarBy borges, Section War and Peace
Below is picture from the "Witness Against War" meeting in La Crosse last week. The walker's comments and reflections were inspiring. Longer speeches by a Veteran of the Iraq War and Kathy Kelly were particularly compelling. In the full story there is a speech Kathy Kelly delivered about a year ago that gives a sense of the power she brings to the peace movement.
It was also good to connect with old friends...
Marcia is known locally as the writer/producer of the "Peace Calendar" available on Driftless_Radio. Here (click_here) is her podcast for last week. We will have a weekly posting of her work to help folks who have no idea what a podcast is or how to arrange one for their computer. If you want to subscribe, click here. Witness Against War Peace Walk--Coming close to the ValleyBy borges, Section War and Peace
Witness_Against_War_2008 is a walk from Chicago to St. Paul to challenge and to nonviolently resist the continuing war in and occupation of Iraq. The route will go through Sparta to La Crosse and so is close to our region.
July 12 is the start date. The journey will begin in the City of Chicago, site of the 1968 Democratic Party convention in the midst of the Vietnam War. The walk will conclude on August 31 in St. Paul -- in time for the start of the 2008 Republican Party convention in the midst of the Iraq war. The image of the route above is an interactive_map on their website that estimates the timing of their arrival in our area. Email contacts and other info are on their site, so if you want to join in for part of the walk double check their progress to ensure a good connection.
