A Driftless Regional web space for Kickapoo Valley news, events and local commerce (like recycling, ride sharing, eating from local sources, buying and supporting local entrepreneurs.)

Visit our Kickapedia site for links to local businesses, farms and services. This is a community wiki (like Wikipedia only smaller) that can be updated by anyone who logs in. The more you join in the better the information and quicker the updates. Don't be shy--if you make a mistake an old version can be restored.

Also try the link to the KickTime_Calendar. We try to keep it as complete, up-to-date and accurate as possible. Please forgive any errors and use the contact information provided for events to double check times and dates.

KickTime is a community project--you are encouraged to submit material. The first step is to create a login account. After logging in, submit your story and it will be reviewed and pushed to the front page within a day or two. See the FAQ for more details about posting material here. If you are totally flummoxed, email the story to admins[at]kicktime[dot]org.

So what do we look for? Events notices are common submissions, but a local view on issues would be a nice change of pace.

Please don't submit a reprint of a news story. Instead provide a new perspective or added insight;
Bring several views together to create a new way to imagine an issue;
Be clever, funny, original;
We encourage attitude and self-confidence, but base your writing on facts;
If you wish to pass literary or artistic judgment, or discuss the merits or demerits of someone or something, do it with subtlety and intelligence;
The more voices here the better!

Too much to ask? Well would you want to spend your precious time reading anything less?

Buddy Mondlock writes songs. He does it so well that some great songwriters have recorded his songs on their own albums. Guy Clark, Nanci Griffith and Janis Ian, to name just a few. But there's nothing like hearing the guy who wrote 'em sing 'em. He's not going to pin your ears back with those songs. He's going to draw you into his world. Where a single snowflake follows the trajectory of a relationship, where you get your pocket picked by a Roman cat, where you might swim over the edge of the world if you're not careful and where dreams that don't come true still count. Wild West Days Weekend August 15-17

Friday evening starts off Wild West Days in Viroqua with a "stampede" parade of local riders and horse teams. The rest of the schedule is on their new website here.

Weekend Happenings

Along with the very beautiful Hiroshima Remembrance in La Crosse we have quite a few arts happenings.

Wilton has the Wood Turtle Festival all weekend. There is a contact phone number in the calendar listing, but no website info available.

Main Street Station in Viroqua has loaded up the schedule with a Poetry Slam Friday night and a special guest is Teague_Alexy who seems to have an interesting style...

And then there is Magic_Mama who is an eco-edu-tainer -- ecology educator who is entertaining -- and will have two presentations, one at 10 am and another at 2 pm. Cost is $5 for kids, $10 for adults or $8 in advance.

And finally on Sunday Adam_Tanner is coming for a 3 pm concert. His work is not on Youtube much, but he did sit in with The Hunger Mountain Boys on mandolin and was quite good, so here is a view into his musical world...

Gays Mills Museum to host improv tonight

The Kickapoo River Museum in Gays Mills will be host to InToIt Improv group as they perform "Here and Then There Again" along with The Cardboard Radio Show this Friday, July 18, starting at 8 p.m.

Liz Cifani Hosting Two Recitals

Liz Cifani is hosting two recitals this summer in her acoustically designed home in Brush Hollow. The first performance is by Erin Ponto, harpist, on
Sunday, July 13 at 3 p.m. The second is by Jim Bowers, classical guitarist, on Sunday, August 17 at 3 p.m.

Reservations are required; please call Liz at 637-6849 for reservations and directions. $15 per person. Seating is limited so don't delay making the call.

"Don't Dump On Us" Benefit Concert 7/2

Tom Neilson, the Jon Stewart of folk music will be playing on Wednesday, July 2nd at 7:30 p.m. for a benefit concert for Asbury Ridge Community for Hope (ARCH) and People for Harmony Opposed to Pollution for the Environment (HOPE).

Neilson will be performing in the Dahl Pharmacy building, 210 South Main St., Viroqua. Neilson, a celebrated children's performer, will also perform at a children's concert at 4 p.m. on July 3rd in the Dahl Pharmacy Building.
