Templum (page 2)Picture of the Day on WikipediaBy borges, Section Templum
Rambling around the net I found that there is a picture of the day feature on Wikipedia. You can subscribe to it, or just check it from time to time for interesting photos. They are nominated/voted in from the many images on Wikipedia. This one is from the December collection...
The interior of the Neue Wache, the central memorial of Germany for victims of war and tyranny. Located in Berlin, the building was originally built as a guardhouse, and has been used as a war memorial since 1931. The statue, Mother with her Dead Son is directly under the oculus, and so is exposed to the rain, snow and cold, symbolising the suffering of civilians during World War II. Is it a Possibility?
October 30, 2007
Come and hear the stories of some of the people who call the "Holy Land" their home. Learn about their lives, their challenges, and their vision for the future. These stories will be told from four residents from the La Crosse area who traveled to the Holy Land from May 6-13, 2007. Come and hear Tim Jacobson, Brad Pfaff, Mark Seitz, and Rev. Kent Johnson share their reflections from their week in Israel-Palestine. Quaker T-Shirts--from a national gatheringBy borges, Section Templum
The week of the 4th of July is the annual meeting of North American Quakers under Friends General Conference. This is the (sometimes called) liberal wing of Quakers and it shows in their choice of t-shirts. I picked on the most interesting ones all week and provide them here, some with smiling faces in view. Thanks to all who went along with my project. Here is the first one I found, with many others in the full story...

The Spirit_In_Action interview with the head of ProNica (Quaker aid organization to Nicaragua) is worth a click. If you don't have an hour to spend listening online, below is a 6 minute clip where she talks about her experience as a "mature" Peace Corp volunteer. She is a very interesting activist interviewed by Mark Helpsmeet who is a terrific listening interviewer.
Listen to the whole show via the above link or click_here to sample the short segment. Eyes Wide Open Exhibit Report--ViroquaBy borges, Section Templum
The Kickapoo Valley Monthly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends (Quaker) hosted the American Friends Service Committee exhibit entitled Eyes Wide Open-Wisconsin: The Human Cost of War today. The sun shone brightly, the wind was brisk, and those who came to pay homage to the fallen of the Iraq War were all deeply touched.
![]() The names were read on the half hour by those with family members in harms way, one with a nephew who perished in Afghanistan, and others with connections to the military. Each reading was a deep experience that brought us all closer to the reality of those who have paid the highest cost and made the ultimate sacrifice. No one could leave the exhibit unchanged, our gratitude to those in the American Friends Service Committee who support and maintain this ever-changing memorial. Dalai Lama, to speak in Madison, May 2-4. All the details are at the Deer_Park_Buddist_Center website. He will offer three days of teaching and an empowerment ceremony, and a separate event offering a public lecture at the Kohl Center. All the events require tickets and probably in advance. The website has online ticket ordering.
I participated in an empowerment ceremony 8 years ago when he visited Madison. Even though I am without formal instruction and grounding in Buddism, it was a moving experience. We are quite privileged to have him return to Wisconsin on a regular basis. I highly recommend making the effort to attend. Non-Violence Resistance Training--3/8By borges, Section Templum
